Modding is a process
we now have a Trolls Invasion!
Published on April 1, 2009 By Zyxpsilon In Everything Else

There is a coordinated attempt by new members to attack StarDock.

Be careful to not fall into the silly traps.

I recommend a bunch of *Ignored* replies, that should solve it besides the normal Moderating locks.

OK, perhaps I'm being a bit harsh here with Attila. I apologize for that. It's just that I've seen soooo many posts on here in the last 3 months on 'Impulse is bad', 'Impulse is DRM', 'Impulse is draconian', 'Impulse is crap' that I fail to see how these labels can be aimed at Stardock's distribution system. At EA yes, at Steam to some degree yes.

But Impulse is so user-friendly it seems absolutely ridiculous that anyone would have a problem with it.  If you want to use it to buy downloadable games you can; if you want to use it to keep your games in one easy to manage place you can; if you want to update a game you can. If you go on a business trip and have to use a company laptop, no need to bring a CD with you. Just install Impulse and download your games. Then if you want to uninstall Impulse after doing any of those things you can. You don't need it to play your games, multiplayer or otherwise. Even if you have only a tiny bit of knowledge about computers Impulse is a breeze to use to manage your games.

Some people say they don't want all this 'junk'/'crap' cluttering up their computer so they call Impulse evil. People would be amazed at how much 'crap' is loaded onto your computer just browsing the Internet using IE. Download a little program call CCleaner sometime, run it, and see how much stuff you clear off your computer that you didn't even know was there. Sometimes it's in the GB's. And yet a 20MB program is 'cluttering' up their computer. Ridiculous. Some people say they don't want to have to go through 'all these registrations'. With Impulse there is only 1 registration and you're done.

Too many people lump Impulse in with the other DRM methods on the principle that any and all forms of DRM or copy protection are evil; therefore Impulse is evil. But they barely actually USE it to find out just how easy it is. I'm thankful we have it just so I don't have to whip out my CD's everytime I want to play a game. I can store all my game CD's back in the basement of my house and forget about them.

Anyway, enough said about Impulse. I know I'm coming off as an Impulse lover here but the fact is that I DO love it. It just makes gaming soooo much easier.

Charvel thank you for givin me a reasonable response. What you said in your middle paragraph is exactly WHY i don't like impulse, thats why all my computers are custom builds so i control whats put on it. Once my cousin came from Turkey and he was complaining his comp was slow at the laptop itself actually was pretty powerful, enough to run most game. SO i decided to take a look at it, there were over 20 "trial" programs random shit that came Bundled with it i mean its no wonder people always complain that they're computers are horrible when its only 1 year old they never clean it.  (also as Charvel said CCleaner really is a great program.)

I personally odn't care about DRM if there is DRM ill go crack it. I spent hard earned money on something and i want it be mine with no strings attached not limited installations no nothing. It doesn''t prevent pirating and will never prevent it i mean there were pirated versions of Cryisis and Spore the day they came out. DRM doesn't do crap so why install malware on your computer?

The reason I've railed against Impulse so much it is not a very well designed program, now before you skip reading the rest and post about how stupid i am. Think for a moment how much of the fact you think its a good program comes from the fact that it just looks pretty? Being pretty is all very well and good but frankly Impulse has many useablilty problems and just because you haven't had any doesn't mean there aren't if you want a list of whats wrong with it from my experience please ask.

Im not a big fan of Steam ethier but Charvel why don't you like steam but like impulse? I mean if its quality of service then think for a moment how many users does impulse have as apposed the steam steam has millions upon millions of users from all corners of the world some of which are only there to make everyones life diffuclut and out of the 5 years of using steam i have had times where i wished that i could just take back all the money i used on steam. But most of the time it did everything i wanted. No misplacing of CD keys, No causing "errors" , maybe some slow downs but overall it works great. The site is organized and easy to navigate and understand everything does what it looks like it should. Now i guess that i shouldn't be talking about steam because just as Charvel like Impulse i like steam so ia guess that arguement is moot but whatever.

I guess the point im attempting to make is that all these things add up " oh one more registration." Is something ive said too many times for too many games. (Although Sins was worth it.) All these "20mb" Files add up and bog down the system. And whenever i install some of these it always attempts to install other "trial" programs with it which is also annoying.

I guess in the end my arguement isn't with Impulse as much as all the programs that force you to register and all that. And i also apolgize to Charvel for coming off as just another "Impulse hater." But i still think you should get a shirt that says "i impulse."

Edit 1: Although i see that your real response was added in later

So, here... Attila464 Charvel1 and vice-versa for having the civility to entirely comprehend what WAS at stake and issuing some clear opinions.

Harmony. Peace.

Oooooooppppssss, here comes another Troll - right below! Wanna bet?

Whatever s/he says, types, comments on.

UNLESS proven otherwise for good reasons by any in this thread.

Yup, it's me.

Norton AV was replaced by AVGIS8.5, MsOffice student-60 by OpenOffice.org.

I thought 500gigs would be enough last summer when i got to finally stare at Vista Aero.

Think again. I went straight into Video stuff.

Feed me, i'm ungry -- and, i need a Steamy HotDog struck by yellowish orbital Lightning.

Huh...you talkin to me?

And now... some Steam users want to pick up a fight about conflicting overlays it seems!

If we (GC2 players) weren't all soooooo ready to explore the entire Universe (designed by StarDock) in a Drengin's scout, we'd probably submit to Valve's distribution engine but, as they say, free-market as a whole isn't opened for negotiations -- unless Trolls win the war.
